‘The way things r going...i think i must change the definition of emotional and practical for sure...i certainly believe the emotional people have taken enough liberty to toy with the words and defined the approaches in their favour....

Last week I was talking to a friend who is set to get married in the near future...she was asking...'are you coming to wedding then'...I gave her reasons that it won't possible for me to attend...and she said, why are you so practical.....you should at least say yes….and I will continue to dream as if you will be coming and be happy….

I am like, what?...What’s practical in that, it’s reality....I am trying to make her life easy by telling her in advance that I can’t come….so that there will be no expectations and disappointment…as per me this is perfect emotional approach…..trying to understand other person’s emotions and not to hurt them …….

but then it dawned on me...everybody doesn’t think this way... My friend must be thinking ‘Why downright no...you should say 'i will try my best to come or something like that?...I would have waited for u...u know what, it’s fun to expect something even knowing there's a disappointment in store for me….but with a firm 'no'...u took away my right to expect and get disappointed….and deprive me of that fun...'

People love to expect...they even crave for the disappointment, pain... they expect, get disappointed...still continue to expect and get disappointed….again and again…. They enjoy that process...you cannot cut short the process at its root and decide 'not to expect at all'....so people who expect, crave for disappointment, feel pain are emotional ...and I am practical cause I believe the process, absolutely futile...

There's another myth...Kalakar ha emotional asato ….is it? mhanaje to emotions cha jastit jast vichar karat asel….tyala emotions prakat karane ( may it be kavita, lekh, gayan, chitra) uttam jamale asel….pan yacha arth to emotional aahe asa hot nahi….to halava asel, tyachya bhavana chatkan dukhavalya jat asatil…..pan he fakt to bhavanik khelatach ramalela aahe aani tyachach satat vichar karato mhanun….to aajubajuchya ghatananche manavar honare parinaam chhan tipat aselahi…..pan mala vatate to ek prakaracha abhyasu avishkar aahe….Kalakaar jevadha halava tevadhach ekhada businessmen hi halava asato…fakt te vegvegalya goshtisathi halave asatil…..

So these 'so-called' practical people don't have emotions?...that can't be true...i guess...the difference in emotional and practical people lies in the way they handle the emotions....the emotional ones are over-powered by emotions...the practical ones r in charge of theirs...practical ones control their emotions well...whereas the emotional ones make a mess of it...emotional people are those who love emotions and love to remain in that world...practical ones are the ones who know there's a world outside this world too....’

Absent-minded to the core...

I dropped Saee to school today...on demand...so i parked Activa near the school...dropped her and came back within say 5 minutes or so....and tried to start Activa...but the key just won't go in the ignition....i tried my best to make the key work.....then some ever-enthusiastic people came to help me....i said i will manage....still they were very keen to help me out...gentlemen always around u know...so they also tried to start the bike by taking turns...

i was wondering what would have gone wrong in mere 5 minutes..when it was all fine just a few min ago.....in the meantime...there's was a guy there waiting for his bike to park so we had to remove Activa from that place...it was a hell of a job as the handle was locked.....then somebody suggested...we will dip the key in the petrol..it might work out....so now I tried to open the petrol tank...the key didn't work again...after half an hr...somebody casually mentioned to me to check whether this is the right Activa....then i checked the number...and sure it had a different number plate on it...... my bike was parked just a few meters ahead and was waiting for me ...'m sure if it could speak..it would have yelled at me for going horribly wrong not recognizing her :))

I apologized to all of course...but what i wanted to do is to laugh my heart out ...it was so funny...the look on the people's faces who tried to help me...total dumb look...a pure kodak moment which i would have loved to capture....:P...
Whats even funnier...that it will be not 'one-off' case...i just know it!!

Give your 'self' a chance...

Saee and her friends were running all over the parking…after scolding them to be quiet and stand at one place till the school van comes…but no avail…they just don’t listen….and even if they do…they forgot what they don’t want to remember in a flash…with minimum of efforts…. and maximum of irritation on our part….

We were wondering…how simple their lives are…..sure they have their share of problems….and worries….but they do well to always remain in the present….so even if we daily admonish them for running around when in our view they should be standing still right next to us (a downright unfair demand they say)….they forgot all of that and start running the moment they step out of the lift….the routine never changes… ….

Have you ever wondered why our childhood memories never cease to make us happy? Why they always bring a smile to our face…because those were the days defined solely by ‘present’….the past and the future tense weren’t their ubiquitous counterparts…..we had an open heart then…and we welcomed the good and the bad and the ugly enthusiastically with both the arms…friends were always friends…and enemies….yes…always the enemies…we had our priorities sorted out…we were blessed with ‘short-term’ and ‘selective’ memory…..and ‘tension’, ‘stress’ were something we learnt only as ‘English’ words….the life without ‘prejudices’…..the life which was truly a ‘present’….a gift…

though yes….these children do tend to get bored very fast…..like all the other things….they like all of it…’fast’….life must always move in the fast lane….and they have certainly better understanding of their surroundings….so at the age of five…my daughter has discovered ‘boredom’ already….and she also knows that ‘its very boring to get bored’ all the time….and they all are downright candid about it….they don’t try to run away, they don’t try to hide…they just declare ‘we are bored’….

Do we face the boredom in the same way? When we feel stagnant, and bored for no reason….well the boredom with the reason is a different case altogether…u had a better idea how to deal with it….but boredom sans reason is a harrowing experience…particularly when it visits you quite frequently….and doesn’t let you go like an unwanted guest….

But unlike children….we choose to ignore it…we try to act as if nothing has happened…we in general try to kill the boredom with the ‘indifference’….some of us try to do something different…try to change the routine….go for a vacation, arrange a get-together and things like that….but after a while…even that ‘change’ becomes the routine…and you start to feel ‘bored’ yet again…do you know why we are so hesitant to accept the fact that ‘we are bored’?....because admitting the same means…now you have to do something about it…and the human race in general is averse to moving out of their comfort zone…why act when a little bit of waiting will do the trick….’no change’ is our lifelong policy….

I know boredom can be a dual sword….it can be constructive or destructive….all depends how you choose to deal with it…. we must learn to make ‘boredom’ fashionable….and it will work wonders for you….but the moment we choose to deal with it as an intruder…..it will be hell bent to make our lives miserable….

I was thinking….are we scared of ‘nothing to do’ phase? Then when it happens…we try to fill whatever void we find in our life with a number of activities…we surround ourselves with people, we surround ourselves with activities….and in general turn a blind eye towards that ‘sinking boredom’ feeling…..but we refuse to accept this restlessness, we refuse to stop and think…we refuse to use the ‘pause’ button in our life…and do the next best thing on the list….’make yourself so busy that these thoughts do not find a way to enter your mind’….is that why we are scared of ‘old age’….i believe the death and the life after that has very little to do with it…we are scared of our life in the later stage ‘when we have nothing to do’….is that we are so afraid to be in our own company….movie…we need someone to accompany….shopping…we want someone to join….decision…we need an opinion….

.the emptiness scares us….its as if we are afraid to be with our own thoughts…lest it will throw up something new that we aren’t familiar with….its as if we are afraid to be with our own ‘self’…..we just aren’t ready to give ur own 'self’ a chance….give 'silence' a chance...

Living & Non-living...

Saee : Is mango a living thing?
Me: No
Saee: Why?
Me: Does it move? Does it talk like you?
Saee: No
Me: Does it eat or drink like you?
Saee: No
Me: Thats why it is a non-living thing
Saee: Then why the mango tree is a living thing...if we get mangoes from the same tree?

Thats the end of conversation...i couldnt answer in a flash...and she was happy that i couldnt answer :)

But yes that sets me thinking...as if i need an excuse to think...why a fruit is not a living thing....'cos once ready, we pluck it from the tree...we take it away from a living thing and make it non-living...but that doesnt mean we are the culprits...it is sure to fall down one way or the other because now it has stopped to grow..it has reached its maximum capacity to grow.....

So in short...a thing which is not growing...or which stops growing becomes a non-living thing....
'can move', can walk, can eat, can drink all are secondary things....

But the question remains...if the mango still contains a seed that will potentially give birth to a living thing yet again...is itself in the transitory stage...tree-mango-seed-tree..
...in the sequence...but still mango and seed are non-living...

ok..another question...do we consider 'seed' as living? no..why...? it actually will start growing now...it should be considered a living thing...why wait for seed to grow into a plant to consider it living?

Can we apply the rule to us? No...but the bottom line is same...when we stop growing....we are dead or as good as dead...we sometimes call it death...sometimes call it stagnation...when we are alive....

How funny...a fruit when dead ( i mean theoretically dead...stops growing) is when we can use it most....and a person when dead has no use whatsoever....

Be yourself...

Can anybody be 100% true to himself/herself..i’m not even talking about others….

If somebody would hv asked me this a few years back…I would hv said an emphatic ‘yes’….we sure had discussed this in college…(good old college days)…and then went to canteen to eat/drink over it…golden days...carefree...less reponsibilities...not exactly less problems...but they were to that certain sphere...now when i remember those days....i smile...how foolish we were...or (were we innocent?)...u know what...i envy that 'stupid' me....anyway…where was i…yes the 100% question….as life goes on...can we still be 100% true....every time...any occasion?....and 100% is not 99.99%....its 24 carat pure gold 100%...

Is there an age for ‘being true to yourself...being honest? i guess so....growing up always come with putting one mask after other...

Life...my way...

I have a favourite pasttime....creating a hypothetical situations with the real people around me...& make stories out of them.....whenever i am getting bored waiting for someone or waiting for the train...or when i am driving alone or when have a lot of time on my hand or when things aren't going my way or when i am just plain frustrated.....i create a situation around me and decide the people who will act in it..and then just the
let the situation flow as i want it....the charaters are not necessarily the real ones though...sometimes i create a person out of nowhere...he/she does exist only in my stories....its fun i tell you....'cos the you are the one who control these stories in the end...so next time when u are telling me something earnestly...who knows..i may be in the different world altogether.....and you wont notice it a bit....i have mastered this art quite well.....

You just never know....

A person, in general is always unpredictable…u can say…’I know so-&-so…so well…I know him inside out…he/she just cant hide anything from me…even if he/she chose to remain silent….’but I believe its very dangerous after all to stick labels to a person….99% of the times u r sure to fall flat on the face…if not sooner then later for sure……then all you can do…is to wonder…and think…did I really know this person all these years?.....

i have come to believe that a person you meet everyday is a bit different from the person you met yesterday….just like every new and fresh day…though it starts with the same sun rising from the east….and ends with that sun setting at the opposite end…

reason being there’s a huge gap of 24 hours between who you have met yesterday…and who you r meeting today…..in between he may have gone through different experiences…different emotions…..and it may have changed him/her a bit …..even if the change is not visible immediately….and if you don’t realise it in nick of time…if u don’t catch it there….suddenly u find him/her behaving in an exactly opposite manner from that of your perception of him/her….

and u r astonished…..wondering….i used to know this person so well…what the hell has happened?....va pu mhantat te kharach...manus bighadala, kamatun gela mhanaje to vegala vagato ase nahi..fakt to aplayala have tase wagat nahi evadhech :)

Oh my GOD....

I am using a new method to tackle my daughter…these days…in any case she is beyond the ‘tangible’ powers in the house…and doesn’t listen to anybody…certainly has a mind of her own…there’s no other way…its always and always ‘only her way’ all along…so inevitably I hv used a story…just like my mother must hv used the same for me ..(tu lahan astana mi pan tula hech sangat hote type)..…there’s a certain ‘devbappa’ sitting in the sky and his main job is to watch over the kids…how do they behave…do they listen to elders? Do they brush their teeth in the morning and before going to sleep….do they eat properly…and all sorts of stuff…and when he sees a child behaving like a good boy/girl…he writes it in a book…(a red book for good work, a black book for bad behaviour..thats my daughters invention…she is somehow fascinated with colours...everything has to be associated with colours...so even ‘bappa’ has to have a color…)…and that has worked temporarily J….you can see her sitting on a window pane and staring at the sky curiously..and wondering what her ‘favourite bappa’ is doing right now…she has eaten well today…she has finished her tiffin…is bappa observing..? is he writing in the red book…(she wanted the pink color for the book and the bappa…but bappa is a boy so no pink color…red color instead…black is out of question….’Bappa’ is certainly in her good books J)…

That has set me thinking….kids understand all the stuff so easily and correctly…they know once the things r explained to them….if you behave well…u r in God’s good books and if u don’t behave well…u r invariably in bad books….its all about getting a zero at the end of calculation….thats how it works…

So what do I believe? Does the God exist? Yes...definitely it does…otherwise how will u explain inexplicable phenomena going around you…ok so if it does, whats its purpose? …and why there’s so much evil around in the world…why there r crimes in the world…why there is so much pain in the world…if God is supposed to be watching all the time…only plausible explanation acc. to me…is… God is not meant for all these things in the first place…the basic assumption seems to be wrong….we r working in wrong premises…God is not there to make your life perfect all the time…he can not and will not take responsibility for each and every person in the world…he has given you powers, talent, virtues, capacity and other things…and how you work on it..how u use it...its entirely upon you..its your decision and responsibility…don’t blame him if things go wrong…and don’t ask for free favours.. …no blackmailing please....’Bhagvad Gita’ has the right message…’nothing is in your hand…everything is decided…but that doesn’t mean you will sit idle…you must work hard without blaming your luck….and without expecting the results…and if u fail…work harder next time…’

and then another question…whats diff between a religious person and an atheist? I do not (willingly) indulge nor I believe in ‘Puja’…I (willingly) don’t go to temples most of the times…when passing a temple, I don’t pray…I never go to a temple before an interview or an exam or anything imp in my life...and I haven’t ask him any favours in my life….but sometimes…when I need a bit of courage to do things…when I stumble for a moment before taking a step forward…my hand accidentally touches the Ganpati pendant I wear all the time…quietly asking for blessings….quietly gaining that inner strength back in me…quietly checking that ‘the invisible power’ is somewhere with me…even if I cant see it…as if I am touching an elder’s feet….does that make me an atheist? Or a believer?  Why can’t I label myself…one way or the other? Do I fear God? What does the concept ‘mukti’ means?

…Questions never seem to end….

Virtually yours...

I have noticed a funny trait in people…including yours truly…people sometimes prefer to remain in invisible mode for no particular reason…enjoying the comfort to remain in the background and still getting best seat for the show...and then they can watch people turning on-off as per their whims....and surprize a friend sometimes with a sudden message…I love this comfort of being on threshold of real and the virtual world...and the power to decide which side of the world i want to be...I guess one of the reasons people do this is ‘cos they miss those old days when the Net had not penentrated so much into their life…

Even accepting the fact that…'m a certified net addict…don’t you sometimes lament the loss of "offline" life we had back then - there was so much unknown, so much to be explored - like unseen/unheard places's pictures in Nat Geo or Discovery….. It was fun to ask questions…remember the countless hours spent in library…sleepless nights pondering over the problems....and then feeling euphoric once u get it…how things have changed…for the better?..well I can’t decide that…but even the word ‘Search’ is going extinct…now you just ‘Google’ it…its like passing the exam with flying colors…but not able to enjoy your success fully….knowing very well…you dont deserve that success….

These days everything around you seem to be virtual…virtual friends…relations…meeting….affairs…world….only excuse I seem to have these days for not being able to be in touch…is ‘my friends are not net savy..’…sure…the virtual world gives you feeling of world being at your ‘finger-tips’….but i guess it makes us less appreciative of the real one..

Agony...

Yesterday I met an old colleague of mine after almost a year….we sort of ran into each other on the road…..last time we met…his wife was carrying and the baby was due in ¾ months….

so naturally the easiest question to carry forward the conversation was ‘how’s your son/daughter…how old is he/she’…suddenly I saw drastic change of expression on his face…agony written all over...and he replied in barely audible voice…’no…we lost our baby in the 1st month itself…it was a boy…’….I didn’t know where to look and I cursed myself at least thousand times…I made him relive his ordeal…..

i mean most of the times I forgot to ask the questions that are there to be asked….and ‘m hopeless in following socially acceptable norms…so in every probability I wouldn’t have asked the question at any other time…but it was not to be…his silence thereafter made me feel even more guilty.

I was left wondering what’s tougher…the tears you held back so defiantly lest u will be called a weakling or the tears you just let out easily….crying as & when want to does take lots of guts….i tell you…

Life's like that

These police constables were on duty also making sure they dont fail in their duties as women of the house...i found this very amusing....was lucky enough to be with camera at the right time...

June 18, 2009

Life is nothing but contradictions....

they say....'no risk...no gain'....and then they say....'look before you leap'... then they say...'opposite poles attract each other' and then finish with 'birds of same feather flock together..'....life is so full of contradictions....but again somebody has said...'contradictions doesnt exist...if you do find one...check your premises...one thing has got to be wrong'....funny isnt it?

Second chance...

I always wonder how people manage to say time & again....that they have no regrets whatsoever in life...even when they are still quite young....i mean i have a whole lot of them...i am thinking of making a list actually...and they just keep on adding as life goes on....they start right from the early childhood days....and list is just endless from there....in future somewhere down the line...if God decides to be kind to me....and asks me
'CHOOSE ONE THING YOU WANT TO REDO'...i will struggle to choose that elite one...
btw...do 'I want a redo of wimbledon final last year and want fedex to win'...or 'a redo of 2003 world cup final...and see india winning...' come under personal regrets??
There will always be a next time....but i dont want that second chance...i want the first chance for the second time....

Amhi fakt karnar samiksha....

Just a few moments back....we were enjoying ourselves...sitting in a balcony...and doing nothing....living on the 5th floor do have some advantages after all...we have the best view of the road below...its fun enjoying the traffic below...when you r not into it...just then we witnessed an accident...an auto overturned...and crashed on to a lamp post...within a few seconds a large crowd gathered...passers by stopped....for a few seconds whole world came to a standstill...i was wondering how many of these are really interested....why r they not coming forward to help....do they really care what happened to that riksha wala...or the passengers....dont they have something better to do than enjoying the 'tamasha'..i even managed to come up with Mi Mazha lines at the right time...'Badalyche kam baki jagache...amhi fakt karnar samiksha'....and then i looked at myself...ashamed..amazed...these few moments of chaos down there did bring some break for otherwise quite late evening....what right i have to comment on those people??

The world that never sleeps...

Its night time as usual....and i am doing what i loved to do most...doing nothing...staring at the ceiling...eyes wide open...but couldnt see anything....then i closed my eyes...the moment i did that...a whole world started dancing before my eyes...the one that never sleeps...

Blogging is such a pain....

Blogging should be banned and all the sites along with it....why r they doing this to me...i am totally hooked...addicted...and now i haven't written anything for 2 weeks....and losing sleep over it...Its 2:00a.m.....I am sitting here staring at my laptop with the dumbest look on my face....when i am supposed to be sleeping peacefully...dreaming of some crazy stuff...but the thing is i don't know what to write and where to start...

In the meantime...i found out a wonderful quote....'you can trust a enemy because you know what to expect. Honestly, Its the friend who you should be afraid of....you will never know how will he behave next....well...well this is nothing to do with my life...i am crazy about friends....its a universally known fact...and let me be clear with it...in spite of having wonderful families pre and post marriage...i just cant live without friends....

to come back to the business called blogging...i wonder how these column writers survive?...to come up with topic every week...and to write on that topic...they must be truly talented....so first thing i want to do tomorrow is find a way to transfer all the thoughts in my mind on to paper....oh well...what the hell....i am an addict...i confess that...
